    Handling in service disabled locomotives

Just curious - if both locos were GE or both Siemens - would they have to switch positions in order for the backup loco to take over? I thought I remembered that you could control another locomotive from the lead position.

    Handling in service disabled locomotives

Thanks for the info - that's interesting. It was a late night / early morning. But Amtrak was fair with us. They stored my bike at the Miami station so I could come back for it at a decent hour (we arrived in Miami at 3:45am). And unsolicited they sent a reasonable voucher for future travel.

    Handling in service disabled locomotives

Well... the locomotives are back, and I couldn't swear to it – but it might be the same two locomotives we had before in the opposite order. They were gone for a good two or three hours – maybe headed to Sanford? They're working on getting everything reconnected now, hopefully everything goes...

    Handling in service disabled locomotives

Ahhhh...Adventure on Amtrak. My last trip (Zephyr) terminated at Denver eastbound due to the previous days' train milk truck incident. Today on 97 we made it to Orlando an hour or so late - then lost power. That was almost 5 hours ago - and we're currently headless (see next photo) awaiting a...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

Not sure whether I should post this in this thread or the dining thread. Does 92 usually serve dinner (7:25pm departure) for Orlando passengers?

Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

For me - menu refreshing and variety is important. Not as important as bringing traditional dining to all LD routes - but important. Refresh is important so if you travel twice on the same train 6-9 months apart - you don't have the same food. Variety is important so if you travel on two...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

What's the latest on the Meteor and Star consists as it relates to Viewliner Sleepers? Which cars are VLIs & which are VLIIs? I have trips coming up in March (97 on 15-Mar and 92 on 22-Mar).

    California Zephyr discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I hope everyone is ok. A little inconvenience for myself and my wife is not a big deal.

    California Zephyr discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

OK – here is a completely irrational and downright nuts take - but I swear it's true and not a conspiracy theory! The San Francisco 49ers found out that I (IndyLions) am undefeated as a Lions fan attending Lions away games this year riding Amtrak. I was all scheduled to take the ultimately...

City of New Orleans (train) discussion

Just returned from a short-ish trip south from the Midwest to the Big Easy. We left Wed late and got back Tue early from Champaign, IL on the CONO. The CONO has a well-earned reputation (along with the Eagle & Cardinal) of being among Amtrak's most disrespected trains. Almost exactly 12 hours...

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I am riding 30(12) out of South Bend - heading to WAS. it's the first time I've ridden this train in several years. My expectations were low, but it's been great. This is my first trip in a refreshed Superliner II. And I will say, it's a little bit nicer than expected. The new upholstery in...

I'm not saying it is unsafe - just not the most pleasant place to spend a lot of time.

    Cardinal discussion

Do you live on the west side of Indy by chance? If so, I'd strongly consider a Crawfordsville, IN (CRF) to CHI round trip instead of IND-CHI. IND is a lousy station with expensive parking. CRF is small, but parking is free and safe (the station is across the street from the police station)...

    Empire Builder service disruption

Lucky me! Generally, I've ridden a fair number of trains and have very few horror stories. So I'm not going to feel too sorry for myself. But after several flights in a row – I was ready to ride the train. While I do everything I can to make the airline experience as positive as possible -...

    Empire Builder service disruption

I was booked on an Empire builder segment (CHI-MSP) round trip departing Monday afternoon and returning Friday morning. I was just informed that both trains were canceled and had to get a refund. Does anyone know what's going on? I'll be flying instead. Bummer.
