    Amtrak Customer Relations regarding compensation

Of course, it's taxpayer money. I'd much rather the trains run on time and that money go towards funding more crews, frequencies, etc. It would be interesting to see just how much of Amtrak's budget goes to overtime, refunds for missed connections, late arrivals, and, notably, hotels. Maybe a...

Likely just example 93758146 of Amtrak employees doing whatever they want unfortunately. 86 is a nice run, glad it was mostly a good experience.

    New Member, Hey

Welcome! The Downeaster is one of Amtrak's best and most unique routes. Highly recommend checking out the cafe car: the menu is unique to the route and includes whoopie pies. I would also echo the recommendation of upgrading to business class.

Loss of Checked Baggage Services likely with Airo introduction

Sometimes it's only $5. But the luggage rack retrofits are not designed well and difficult to use. It's supposed to fit two in each rack, but it doesn't work. You have to take all the luggage out of the rack to use it, and often that means awkwardly asking people to move their bags, or just...

Loss of Checked Baggage Services likely with Airo introduction

I just realized that in the next couple years, the only services offering checked baggage service northeast of WAS will be the Crescent, Silver Services, and the thrice weekly Cardinal. The Carolinian, Palmetto, and Pennsylvanian will all be replaced with Airo sets, meaning they will lose their...

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Thanks for the update @Dutchrailnut! Does stage 2 testing on the Avelias mean revenue service is still projected for 2024?

I'll believe it when I see it. Amtrak IT isn't exactly industry-leading.

One would think this would be a good procedure to standardize 😄

    Equipment shortage?

It's likely you're seeing "only 2 seats left" which actually means "only 2 seats left at this price".

Yikes, I didn't think about the business class and quiet cars changing position based on direction of travel. That will take a long time for passengers to get used to. It's pretty consistent across the board these days that station agents announce that they are the last two cars of the train...

Preferential treatment for California Zephyr w/American View (10004)?

I for one don't think it's just good luck that 5(25) left on time.

Wow this is a big change! Sitting backwards will certainly be something to get used to, especially at the high fares these days. Only on NEC South.
