We'll be on board Saturday. We try to get the seats at the bulkhead end of a car by the bathroom so that tiny Keith Richards has room to stand and wiggle around. I'll have on jeans, flip flops, and probably a blue headband.

I never mind riding backwards. I've always felt like it gave me more time to gaze at something I want to remember instead of reaching ahead to see what's next.

Tiny Keith Richards (who now has more of a mid-sized Robert Plant thing going on) and I are in for sure!

And I'm riding on it now on the way down from Saco. It's due to be on the Downeaster through 9/24. There will be some lovely leaves up here by then.

"Baked Amazon Cod Fish" ... Cod don't live in the Amazon. I'm all for marketing and grok that "Baked Amazon Cod-Like Fish" doesn't sound as good, but this kind of thing bugs me. Amazon cod isn't a thing. I don't want to eat it. Paiche? Sure.

You can get on the Downtown 1 train at 103rd St (one block away) and stay on it to 34th Street Penn Station. Then all you have to do is follow signs to NYP up from the subway.

I like the downstairs just fine. It's somewhat more peaceful w/ no through traffic. It also gives you a chance to clean your own windows if they're grubby. We always travel with a pack of windex wipes so that we can clean our windows inside and out when we board.

Am sitting in the dome car right now. An entirely lovely experience.

The family room has a window on both sides which is a terrific advantage since you don't have to miss any of the scenery. We stuff the three of us in a family room quite comfortably. With one person, I expect it would seem huge. None of us mind train noise, so the various train and wheel...

For little ones (the under 10-set) at breakfast, it doesn't bother me at all. I think that pajama breakfast is one of lifes great joys and we have so few years where we can really get away with enjoying it. That having been said, for other meals I agree that street clothes are more appropriate.
