I rode the Auto Train once and that was probably the longest nonstop train I've ever been on. I watched them load my car and then boarded the train. After it pulled out of Lorton, I only remember the train stopping 3 times. None at stations... just somewhere along the route to stop and wait...

will the Avelia trains they ordered be equipped passenger ejection seats? (so you can be ejected to the platform when you've arrived at the station indicated on your ticket)

the current system seems to have just one purpose... which is to keep tabs on passengers so they can be kicked off the trains at their correct destination. does Amtrak think that passengers cannot be trusted to get off the train by themselves? :D

If you go through a DHS checkpoint on a California highway about 40 miles from the Mexican border, the nice Border Patrol agent will provide a 3" x 5" pamphlet describing their authority granted by the courts. I'll try to dig up my copy from the basement.... hopefully.

that's probably the #1 thing I don't like about Amtrak. Why can't they just come up with a way to do online seat assignments like European trains? :(

Do the attendants sanitize the toilet/shower before the next passengers get on the train? Is it a little awkward if occupying the bedroom with someone else that you're not comfortable being naked with? (not sure how else to put this) I assume one can only put on dry clothes once outside...

can anyone show me how showering over the toilet is done? (photo, YouTube video, or whatever) on my return trip, the only sleeping room is a Bedroom, which as I understand, has combination shower/toilet. is it as bad as that sounds? :( Thanks!

If they can spill the bacon, I can spill the beans, no? :) Back to the red cap at WAS... I usually give them $5 just so I can board the train early, especially if I know the train is packed. Worked 99% time, except the one time a red cap refused because I had no luggage... just a backpack...
