I was thinking about taking the lake shore to Chicago in coach was wondering if i can have dinner in the dining car
Menu on lake shore limited for coach passengers?

No, coach passengers are no longer accommodated in the so-called dining car. You will only be able to order from the café car menu.

The former Dining Car is now ”the Sleeper Lounge” and is only open to sleeping car passengers. It is not available at all to coach passengers on any eastern trains.

Coach Passengers like you don’t deserve a dining car according to Amtrak management.

Airline management at its finest. Economy=no food for you. Bring it with or wait until you get there. We'll sell you a small sandwich. Meals? Out of the question.

Actually Airlines on long haul 6+ hour routes would provide a free meal, even for economy pax. Even on transcon routes like JFK-LAX/SFO Delta now provides meals.

I said that Delta is providing it on Transcon routes, not AA. I agree that AA has not followed suit on their transcon product.
Hopefully you'll have time to get something to-go from the Albany station stop. I would highly recommend bringing food with you.

Some airlines I think are on their “Premium Service” trans cons, but not on all flights.
Example: UA may offer it on their PS flights from LAX to EWR, but not “Normal” LAX to EWR or LAX to IAD - even if they are all nonstops!
