Taking the eastbound Zephyr tomorrow morning from Emeryville to Chicago. How early do we need to get to the station? Can sleeper passengers order meals from a menu instead of this new flex program? Is there a link to the menu? Where are we likely to see fall foliage? Thanks!

The Zephyr still has traditional dining cars with full menus. Enjoy it while you can!

The zephyr is an amazing ride, my favorite. The scenery is just phenomenal.

If you aren’t checking in luggage you don’t need to be there particularly early. Maybe allow 30 minutes?

Truckee to Reno should be fine for fall foliage right now. I just drove through there last week, and it was looking pretty good. Not much foliage to see between Emeryville and Sacramento. Sacramento to Reno might be looking good now, particularly Roseville to Auburn.

Colorado high country is past the aspen color peak. Their may be some color in the Wasatch mtns of Utah. Too early for the tamarisk along the Colorado River in western Colorado to be turning salmon pink.
