Is the City of New Orleans changing to single level?

There are too many unknowns that can make an effect on the CNO becoming single level. A major incident that sidelined many Superliners could require assigning CNO cars or another Superliner train to other trains but the opposite of a major incident sideling many single levels could have an opposite effect. "IF" and its a big if the next administration decides to order many more Siemens single level cars then some substitution of one or more Superliner routes probably will happen. Also if more CAF sleepers were to be ordered then that is another unknown. But what route would loose SLs is only rampant speculation at this time.

One item for the CNO not loosing Superliners is the New Orleans maintenance facility does much more maintenance work than just turn around work on SL cars.

Politics is too fickle to know what will happen next year much less in 3 - 4 years.

Don't most Viewliner trains go into/through New York City? I'm pretty sure Superliners won't fit in those tunnels.
Also NYP is high platform, Superliners are low.

No, they will not clear the river tunnels and they won't clear the Baltimore tunnels either.

The only Viewliner train that doesn't go to New York is 448/449, the Boston section of the Lakeshore

The CIty of New Orleans equipment - if made into a single level trainsets - could interchange with the Lake Shore or Crescent in Chicago or New Orleans respectively, and thus exchange out equipment in NYC or be cycled there to/from Hialeah, FL. The City of New Orleans has recently been thrown in as part of the "eastern long distance train" discussion. I have questioned for a year or so whether Amtrak would convert the CONO or Capitol Limited. These trainsets were at one time single level, and only became outfitted with Superliner equipment when the Superliner II's came on the property. Allowed for more retirement of the Heritage equipment, the sleepers especially! CONO operates with one revenue Superliner sleeper and sells space in the Superliner Trans Dorm-Sleeper, so two Viewliner Sleepers should do the trick. If the Capitol Limited is converted to single level, hopefully it would finally get the through cars from the Pennsylvanian at Pittsburgh and be less challenged with two different equipment types!
