Magnets didn’t stick in bedroom

On my latest trip to Reno on the CZ, 3 women in a bedroom, I took magnetic clips to hang a sheet for privacy if we showered. Since my mom gets cold, I brought magnetic covers for the vent.

None of these would stick anywhere in that bedroom, why?

The metal surface is not steel (or some other ferromagnetic substance).
I use suction cup hooks for getting cables, etc out of the way. Might work for for hanging your "privacy sheet".

certain commonly used forms of stainless steels are not magnetic (it is a function of the added nickel changing the molecular structure)
