LA Union Station Major Upgrade

The MTA Board yesterday approved the major upgrade to LAUS with Linkus. (https://la.streetsblog.org/2019/06/27/metro-board-approves-link-us-union-station-cut-through-tracks/). It includes a gratly expanded tunnel and run-through traks. Total cost about $2.3B.

That's quite a commitment to the future of rail in L.A. Given the density of buildings and the 101 where the new tracks would go to return to the main, I can imagine there'll be a lot of discussion when it comes to expropriation and environmental concerns.

EIS complete and certified by the Board. Contracts go out in the next weeks.

It's about time !!! This is a no brainer !!!

I will note that the project is segmented into pieces and not fully funded. However, the *most important bit*, the actual run through tracks and the bridges to carry them, are fully funded. This means as soon as the funded part is done, Metrolink can start running north-south through services, and Amtrak Surfliners can run from San Diego to Santa Barbara / San Luis Obispo without reversing.
