Flooding is being eyed as the cause of this derailment. The link has pictures of the scene. They estimate restoration in a day or two. In the meantime, the Crescent is terminating/originating at BHM until the track open.

HILLSDALE, MS (WSPA) - Flash flooding caused a train to derail in southern Mississippi, early Saturday morning.

According to CBS affiliate WLOX, the Norfolk Southern train derailed in the Hillsdale community of Pearl River County.

Drone video from above the crash shows at least 20 cars derailed near Hillsdale Road
 
I’m Surprised they are turning in Birmingham vs. Atlanta. Would turning in Atlanta be extra difficult right now? Or should I give Amtrak credit for going the extra few miles?
