Metra issues RfPs for new equipment

This is very interesting because Metra says it will consider multilevel models other than gallery cars. Since Metra and predecessor private railroads have used gallery cars for more than 50 years, it would be quite a break from tradition to go to full two level car design.
 
This ought to be interesting! I wonder where they'll get the 8 new locomotives from? I'm guessing they'll be Siemens SC-44's, but that's just an early guess.
 
New rail cars would replace older cars, and could have a different design that would accommodate more people and allow for easier boarding

Well, I guess if the cars took the "Bombardier" (now built by other manufacturers as well) design used by Tri-Rail, Sounder, and several other agencies, the ADA community's needs would be better addressed.
