It has been common practice for quite a few years. There are a number of Superliners floating around on the Pacific Surfliner, and they show up sometimes in Midwest service, most often on the Quincy trains and the Pere Marquette. The Heartland Flyer also uses them.

I suppose the unanswered question is whether more than usual are going to corridor service. Perhaps equipment attrition is forcing Amtrak to shift additional cars to meet their contracted requirements to the states.

What replaced the wrecked Talgo set? Superliner swaps for Horizons in the winter have gone on for years also. Nobody has presented anything that says definitively that specific additional resources are being leased out.

A few years back Superliners were a winter swap for horizon cars. The practice became permanent year round. A few wreck Superliners cars were rebuilt for California service. Superliners will show up in Seattle when a Talgo set was shopped.

The trainorder thread is about the conspiracy to cut back to the long distance fleet.
