Are you sure you're not an Engineer, rather than a pilot. (Engineer as in keeping those spreadsheets). ;)
I have a spreadsheet too of all my train trips, same as with all my plane trips as a passenger. I guess our types tend to like keeping accurate records of our lives.

I keep a spreadsheet as well, though my computer crashed a few weeks ago and I lost the file.

As of now I have just over 13,000 miles on Amtrak, just under 2,000 on VIA Rail, and about 2,200 on the Long Island Rail Road.

Only started riding AMTRAK in 2012 so I only have 9546 miles. My pre AMTRAK mileage is a lot more, I just don't have the memory or inclination to add it up.

My first inter-city* train travel was in 2005.

*Meaning not on transit and not on scenic railways.

Since 2005, I've traveled:

  • 33,974 miles on Amtrak
  • 4,162 miles on Via Rail Canada
  • 2,718 miles by train in Europe, mostly on Deutsche Bahn
  • for a total mileage of 40,854.
So far in 2014, I've traveled 8,528 miles on Amtrak.

My Amtrak mileages by year since 2005 are:

  • 2005: 253
  • 2006: 901
  • 2007: 2,032
  • 2008: 1,779
  • 2009: 1,143
  • 2010: 3,520
  • 2011: 7,047
  • 2012: 4,951
  • 2013: 3,820
  • 2014: 8,528
On average, I've ridden 3,397 miles per year on Amtrak, although in the last 5 years, my average is 5,573 miles.

During the period from 2005-2014, I've ridden Amtrak in 44 states (including Wyoming), plus DC, plus Quebec, plus British Columbia.

The only states I have not ridden Amtrak in (that Amtrak serves) are Maine, Michigan, and Tennessee.

I've also ridden 23 Amtrak routes (in this order):

Heartland Flyer, Coast Starlight*, Capitol Corridor*, Capitol Limited*, Crescent*, Northeast Regional*, Pennsylvanian*, Acela Express*, Pacific Surfliner*, Cascades*, Empire Builder, Carolinian*, Silver Meteor*, Empire Service, Cardinal*, Adirondack*, California Zephyr*, Southwest Chief*, Sunset Limited*, Vermonter, Texas Eagle, Lake Shore Limited, San Joaquin.

Routes marked above with an * I have aced (ridden the entire length in at least one direction).
