I personally cannot sleep while sitting even on this wide and spacious reclining seats with ample leg room. Here you can walk trough the train or jump directly by a folding menu (after initial loading) to the coach car as an interactive 360º panorama...

It is for sure not the best experience when you get stuck on your first Rail Trip. As already explained there are many reasons beyond the power of Amtrak. Well you can get also stuck on the highways, where are you going to complain and ask for "refund".???? In any case I prefer to get stuck...

I don't know how the DVB-T (Terrestrial Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting) is in the USA? But even in completely DVB-T covered Germany you can forget about trying to watch TV on your laptop when traveling on train. Now imagine to be in remote areas of Arizona or Utah ...

I think it is feasible. As she is accompanied she should never walk alone. For a long trip I would suggest to book at least a roomette. Either on the lower level, then restrooms and showers are on same level as well as the train entrance and food could be brought from the dining car. Or...
