    San Francisco/Emeryville, CA

will you have a car for the day? Sausalito would be nice, but without a car, easier from SF. I'll be in Emeryville in July, there is a Hyatt about 500 feet from the train. Family event nearby in Piedmont, somewhat more "upscale" than E-Ville.

    SEPTA cancels contract with CRRC

Can't rule them out, but Kawasaki is pretty busy with the r-211 order for NYC right now.

    SEPTA cancels contract with CRRC

Yes it is usually "lowest responsible bidder" not just lowest bidder. Solid contract management folks carefully craft the reasons to disqualify a bidder to minimize litigation (or its chance of success)

    Northeast Regional discussion

Which is why i said mostly. I do believe that the number of people who claim a physiological reason to oppose sitting facing the rear is much greater than the actual number. A bit like the I can't have gluten crowd versus the people with a physical condition like celiac sprue.

Yes, and since much of the rest of the world accepts it and doesn't have a major problem, that suggests that it is mostly psychological, not physiological.

I would imagine a good bit of the bias is cultural, since most of us are in tune with riding forward as a norm. Not such a big deal in most of the rest of the world. As it becomes more common, less and less young people will be acculturated to the ride forward good, ride backward bad concept...

Container Ship strikes and collapses Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge

Curious if they might try and get a bit more height to water on the rebuild, within the limits of the approaches of course.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger Locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2Q 2024)

Sometimes people get confused since NY did order DMs for MNRR and CT and holds options for addt'l units for MNRR and LIRR but that is a totally different agency from NYS DOT.

Additional Service from New York/Philadelphia to Pennsylvania

yes, my comment should have read 12kv 25hz, which is the sticking point I was thinking about.

What electrical system would be in play? I don't recall the EXO units having 12.5 KV capability.

    Planes overhead

I live in one of the primary departure paths from LaGuardia, so around 6AM it starts. When the DC-9/MD80 and 727s went away, it is so much better. The newer engine equipped stuff made a huge difference. Used to watch a Met game and hear/see a plane take off pst the stadium, and know that...

Amtrak FY24-29 Five Year Service and Asset Line Plans

Wasn't there an item indicating a desire to upgrade the resv system? Not a small $ number if I recall. I'd love to see an enhanced kiosk that could be used in an unmanned as well as manned station scenario where you could push a button to request an agent assist and one could interact via a...
