    CS - Breakfast times

Thank you all for the great advice. Yes, the CS did operate today, originating at SAC. Folks from northern points were bussed overnight to SAC. i took the bus from SFC, and had time for coffee at EMY. I liove the woman who runs the coffee shop there. She is really awesome. initially, the...

Regional and are the food courts open at Penn Station?

I am sad that Tim Hortons has closed. I love them, and I think that the Penn Station location was the last one left in the US, other than possibly very close to the Canadian border. But on a good note one of my favorite places is still open - Penn Sushi - where they make a great green tea...

    Toronto-Sarnia-Port Huron-Chicago

Thanks for posting the details on the Windsor-Detroit crossing. I did take that route recently and love it since it is public transit. The Tunnel Bus runs frequently and is quite efficient. This is certainly the best route to take for Toronto-Chicago. I actually started in Buffalo...

    Toronto-Sarnia-Port Huron-Chicago

Greetings- I know there have been a few posts on this some years ago, but has anyone recently taken VIA from Toronto to Sarnia to then cross the border for the Blue Water from Port Huron to Chicago? I believe that there are still no public transit options for the Canada-US border crossing, but...

How do I get to Niagara Falls from Chicago?

Indeed it is the PM. I am working toward completing travel on all Amtrak routes, and recently did this in the other direction - Buffalo-Niagara’s Falls-Toronto on the Maple Leaf, then Toronto-Windsor via VIA, to the tunnel bus, local transit, and the the PM from Pontiac to Chicago. I did...

No response from Amtrak customer service

I was using a 35,000 award for bedroom WMJ-LAX-SEA on SW Chief to CS. The Chief was over 5 hours late, due to mechanical problem from origin at Chicago. I knew in advance about the delay, but then needed to pay for another night hotel in Williams, (paid at my own expense) as there would have...

Cut-off time for booking AGR Sleeper reservation?

I did a spontaneous trip a few months ago, booking BOS-CHI-OKJ the day before travel. I didn't have any trouble making the booking, but found that I had been "profiled" for doing so. - My boyfriend and I were questioned about our travel plans by security officers train side in Reno along the...

    Surfliner Info

I did get to take the Surfliner this past weekend. I decided to do it southbound, rather than northbound, in order to enjoy it all during the daytime, and my goal was to get the 655am train that goes the whole way from SLO-SAN on Friday morning. I flew from BOS-SFO, but then found it a...

What's the shortest length you'll regularly ride Amtrak?

I used to regularly ride MDN-HFD, and also MDN-NHV - each was about 20 minutes. But the shortest I have done was MDN-WFD, which is about 8 minutes

    Shortest Amtrak Trains

I was going to comment on this old thread if no one had mentioned the CT Budd cars. I used to ride those frequently. Usually the operated with two cars (one smoking, and one non-smoking). But sometimes would operate with only a single car. They were CTDOT subsidized, but operated as...

    Surfliner Info

Wow - thanks for the er...lovely pictures. You are making me think that it might not even be worth the extra 500 points for the upgrade. Though perhaps the best benefit of business class may be a little peace and quiet. I recently was on the MRR from KCY to STL, and kicked myself for not...

Why No Business Class On San Joaquin

Does Amtrak offer any special benfits to connecting business class/sleeper passengers on the SJ since it is all coach? Typically if connecting from a sleeper to a train without, the ticket allows for a business class seat. I was recently on the Southwest Chief intending to connect to the...

    Surfliner Info

Actually (ironically) the Coast Starlight is "daylight" between LAX-OKJ, and becomes "starlight" north of Oakland. What I think would be great would be to have a west coast "night owl" leaving both LAX and OKJ around 900pm to arrive at the opposite side early in the morning.
