200MPH+ on the NEC: Is it practical?

I read on here alot of ideas about straightening and eliminating g curves. But I thought the tilt feature was supposed to take care of all that. It was touted as THE way for high speeds on curvy territory. Why or how are the trains' tilting machines not enabling the e visioned reduced travel...

Speakers and meetings and fees, oh my !! It doesn't sound transparent enough and stopped trusting NARP awhile ago.

30th Anniversary of Amtrak's worst accident

I remember it. In 1993 the Sunset Limited was just extended to Miami Florida in April I think. The newspapers of New York City had the tragedy on the front page for several days. And on TV it was the major story for much of the week. Thoughts and prayers to all who have been impacted.

Historical trains of the Atlantic Coast

Everytime I read about the Era where Florida trains were split / joined at Jacksonville and Auburndale I get homesick. That was a time when there was lots of operable equipment so that consists of up to 18 cars were done, and these bulked up Silver Stars and Meteors often ran full during summer...

Amtrak PR piece - Introducing a New Era of Rail in America

I'd like to correct Laura Mason. I was an 80's kid. So, when I heard the name Amtrak, when I saw and rode it, I associated it with bold, innovative futuristic rail travel that will save the passenger train in the U. S. That was the thinking it evoked at the time. Yes, there were some bumps. 1984...

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Passed by the Race Street yard on #43a few hours ago. One of the trainsets had multiple undercarriage doors open for an unknown reason. No workers present, though.

    Amtrak vs spouse/partner

With me there is no verses. It's not partner vs. Amtrak, it's partner and Amtrak. Shorter trips like NY to Lancaster we have taken, longer ones such as to Ft. Lauderdale, we flew. It was all ok, I'm not going to blow my relationship over a disagreement of whether to train or to fly.

    Viewliner I and II discussion

What about the long plans to upgrade the V 1s to 125mph?

Should we say "good riddance" to the Acela 1s?

How many tons (where one ton equals 2,000 pounds) does an Acela 1 locomotive weigh? For comparison, how about a Seimens ASC64?

Should we say "good riddance" to the Acela 1s?

I'm conflicted about the disposal of 20 year old trains, yet, see Amtrak's point of view that these are heavy and difficult to maintain machines. Not to mmention they run slower than hoped for because of the extra 4 inches, the locomotives' performance on curves, etc.

    Acela Cart Service (2023)

I have a brochure from the early 80s advertising cart service on a few NY to Boston Metroliners.

LAX to NYP, NYP to PDX and on to LAX question

Besides the speeds, I got a thrill on the curves, when the tilt mechanism did their thing and the horizon would rise and fall.

Freight Derailment disrupts Capitol Limited 2/3/23

I think it's time to put pressure to stop freight from being 140 cars long, especially when they are carrying flammables and toxins.
