    Amtrak Cascades Service discussion

How does that work? Isn't the UP the only way through Eugene? There are several short lines that run into Eugene, but I'm assuming Amtrak won't be running on those.

On my rides this past year that has been a $4 voucher. Inflation, you know!

More than one Dining Car in Long Distance Train?

I remember this in the late 90's. One diner served lighter fare (salads, etc.) I was headed east, and the Portland train didn't have a diner at the start, so the boxed dinner coming out of Portland has always been a thing.

    Coast Starlight discussion

Very good going through the Cascades between Klamath Falls and Eugene San Jose's arrival time is on the cusp for getting dinner on the train. If the train is on time, they'll usually send me straight to the diner for dinner. If the train is late, the diner will be closed. To be safe, it might...

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

There's a thruway bus, which does that now. Not ideal, but you can book a ticket going east without going through Chicago

AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

Has anyone taken advantage of the 20% discount on any Amtrak food and drink purchases? I purchased a bottle of wine onboard last week, and the charge cleared this week, but without the discount. Should that happen automatically upon purchase, or is there a credit issued later in the billing...

My first Amtrak trip on eastbound Empire Builder

Pro tip: time your shower for a station stop, preferably a long one.

Food delivery on Coast Starlight LAX to SEA

The Portland Union station is home to Wilfs Restaurant. Unfortunately, it looks as if they don't open until 4PM Wednesday - Saturday, so your train would need to be running a tad late to order there.

    Empire Builder Food

I was on the Builder earlier this month. The sleeper I was in had the older seats, but newer blanket. I thought the food was the best I'd had on Amtrak for a while. The lobster crab cake had a nice, spicy sauce, the mixed green salad was devoid of iceberg lettuce, and tasty. I had the salmon...

What's the latest with 8/28? Weather, equipment, staff and other disruptions

We've had a handful of people bail. Thee conductor says they're taking the rest of us back to Chicago this evening, but that seems unprecedented. I can't remember Amtrak sending a train full of passengers back to their originating stations, and then saying "good luck" before. That said, I...

What's the latest with 8/28? Weather, equipment, staff and other disruptions

I'm on 27(7). We're sitting in Minot. They're planning on turning the train and having it become 8/28 this evening. I think they're trying to figure out what to do with the passengers on the train. Sending everyone back to Chicago doesn't make much sense, but they can't just kick everyone off...

Amtrak BidUp (Bidding for Upgrades - Business Class, First Class, and Sleepers)

I just had an unsuccessful bid on the Empire Builder (27) from CHI to PDX for tomorrow. My roomette was low bucket ($529), and a bedroom is currently going for $2016. I put in the lowest possible bid on the bidding website, $295. There are still two bedrooms left at the $2016 price according...

    More Amtrak Service In Ohio?

All that survived were three of the arches from the original station, which was demolished for the Convention Center construction. They moved around a couple of times, but are now part of a development (The Arena District) on the other side of High street: When the convention center was...

Historical Amtrak service to Central Ohio

My recollection from reading his book All Aboard was that it was from NYC to Chicago by interurban. There were some interurbans with sleepers in Indiana, as well as dining cars. (On the Indiana Interstate line). That must have been quite an experience.

    Restaurants near Chicago Union Station

Has anyone been to Bombay House and Grill, the Indian restaurant on VanBuren between Clinton and Jefferson? At the very least, it's close to Union Station....
