    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

Just left NYC going north on 245, which I am so glad to have back. It sure was nice to have lounge access, if only to have a decent bathroom to fall back on. That’s a plus in the city. The lounge did have some decent selections for food. I guess I just didn’t look closely enough last time.

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

Last time I was there, I only saw bagals and other small stuff. Maybe I was there at the wrong time?

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

Does anybody know if they're still allowing you to bring outside food into the Metropolitain Lounge in New York? I'm so happy to see 245 return, I may go down and back Wednesday just to watch a couple of basketball games I don't care about.

I just noticed 245 is back up running. When did that happen? That’s great news. I can now stay for a ballgame and ride back the same night. And it’s a good insurance policy if I’m coming back down n the Silvers

    Auto Train discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Thanks all. I stopped at the gas station across the street to stock up. First time on the auto train. Was surprised I had to check in … almost missed it. I’m in the 9 pm dining time. Good thing I’ve got the gas station stuff On the plus side, they had no problem driving my stick. Two years ago I...

Can someone tell me if there’s a snack bar or other food options in the Lorton station?

    Parking at Albany-Rensselaer?

Annoying that it costs more to park here than at the airport econo park.

    NEC Meltdown 12/31/23

I will happily take advice from older people, too (I'm 64). I'll have to hunt the Internet and learn about phone chargers. One of the problems here was that I didn't have a backpack or anything else with me. I went to a sports event at night and you can't get it through security. The value of...

    NEC Meltdown 12/31/23

I was standing at 34th street around 3 o'clock when the announcement came that it was cancelled -- a surprisingly clear and understandable announcement, by NYC standards. I guess they had the train standing at 2nd avenue for anyone who wanted to walk through it, but they didn't post that...

    NEC Meltdown 12/31/23

I was on the leading edge of this storm two days ago (Saturday night). I parked at Denville and took New Jersey Transit into the city to, among other things, ride the NYC Subway nostalgia train (which was cancelled, dang it). Anyway, I boarded the 10:11 p.m. train at Penn Station to head back...

    Empire service disruption

Weather disrupted travel between Albany and NYC on Monday. There was also a problem in the Northeast corridor, which made for lots of people waiting around at Moynihan Train Hall. Late in the afternoon, a protest spilled in from the street and occupied the middle of the main floor for about 20...

    Cardinal discussion

On the off chance this is interesting to someone, the Cardinal from Chicago to Indy tonight ran thusly: two engines (I think it’s two, I didn’t go all the way forward), baggage, some kind of Superliner (photo shows front 4 cars after disconnect), engine, two coaches, cafe, sleeper, bag-dorm (my...

Was the % full feature removed from Amtrak Reservation System?

I saw it as a good marketing tool for Amtrak. If you see it’s 80 percent full, maybe you think “I better get my ticket now.” Sort of like the airlines sites when it says “only three seats left at this price.”

Detour+bus bridge schedule for LA Union Station bypass 12/26-12/29

The travel advisory makes it sound as if they’re actually catering to train people.
