    Changes coming

Amtrak should adopt the airlines new 'Buy On Board' (B.O.B.) method of food service on short distance runs. Selling sanwiches as meals with chips, cookie and a drink for $10. Snack packs for $5. Just a thought.

    Changes coming

Actually, there has always been a surplus of Amfleet I Food Service Cars. Many trains on the NEC would run with extra Food Service Cars in the consist that were just used for revenue seating with the cafe counter closed. Also, there was some talk of these conversions back in the Warrington era...

Cheap railfan trip in the Northeast

Alan did bring up a valid point about the connection from the Blue Line to the Orange Line at State. In fact there's a similar connection at Downtown Crossing from the Orange to the Red Line. A couple years back I accidently walked the wrong way and made my way back up onto the street at...

Cheap railfan trip in the Northeast

Let me also add that once you're on the Blue Line you can jump off at State, take the Orange Line (Forest Hills) to Downtown Crossing, and pick up the Red Line (Ashmont or Braintree) to South Station. This option may shave off about 5-10 minutes.

Cheap railfan trip in the Northeast

You’ll be arriving into Terminal A on Delta Song. So once you’ve retrieved your luggage and are outside of security you’ll want to catch the #22 Massport (Logan) Shuttle. This will make two more stops at Terminal B then go direct to the Blue Line Airport Station. From there you want to take the...

    Kind of train?

Gingee, What is deceiving in the photo is that the ceilings at the ends of the Amfleet car are recessed several inches than in the center of the car. Therefore, it makes the overhead luggage space look smaller. As within Amtrak requirements, a bag no larger than 28 x 22 x 14 should fit in the...

Amtrak to Pull Cafe Cars from Empire Service

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but the article did not state that the ALB ‘restocking facility’ would be closed. Therefore, 448/449 will still have the ability to be restocked in ALB along with trains continuing to Niagara Falls, Toronto, and Montreal. I’m guessing the move was to free up badly...

    New Connection from Boston

Hey everyone. Yes I’m still alive, but life has sort of been taking me a new road this year. While graduating from high school last year I had not applied to any colleges as I had no clue of what kind of career path I wanted to take or school I wanted to go to. So I ended up taking a few basic...

    Amtrak November Schedule Change

Usually the new schedules are posted less than a week before the change, so after October 26 or so. If you want times between two particular stations you can always use the online reservation system for up to date schedules.

    Third Annual Amtrak Journey

There are four dining car menus that rotate throughout the system. Trains that serve more than one dinner per trip have nightly specials to make for a little variety.

My kitbashed phase IVb Amfleet I

Nice job. A couple questions though. Where did you find the decals for the phase IVb scheme and what color paint did use for the teal blue?

New Metropolitan Lounge is open in Chicago

Then I guess my next question would be if they utalized the old furniture for the new lounge then was there any new additional seating added? Steve, if you wouldn't mind do you think you could snap a few photos while you're in the lounge on your next trip?

New Metropolitan Lounge is open in Chicago

What they should do is just put out those portable stand up air conditioner untis like they had in the temporary lounge. They can be used on the weekend days in the summer and then be stored for the winter. Did they put new furtniture in or is it the came old sofas and coffee tables?

Superliner ex. Coach Smokers Being Renumbered

It should also be mentioned that both cars had the old smoking lounge replaced with the baggage room as they were originally built with. Also, the lower level windows were removed.
