Sen. Bill Nelson lost reelection to FL Gov. Rick Scott by 0.12%.  Nelson was a big Amtrak supporter.  As governor, Scott killed HSR that was to be built with federal funds between Orlando & Tampa.

One less Amtrak supporter in the U.S. Senate.

On the other hand, we gained Jacky Rosen in Nevada, who has consistently voted for Amtrak, versus Dean Heller who was not always opposed but pretty flaky.  It looks like North Dakota might be a wash regarding Amtrak support, since Kevin Cramer actually rides Amtrak.  Missouri's definitely a loss, Hawley is much more anti-train than McCaskill.  Indiana's probably a loss but who knows, Braun's a mystery on rail issues.  Arizona isn't as much of a gain as it should be since Sinema's made anti-rail votes in the past (though Flake was virulently opposed, so it's probably still a gain).

I'm sorry to see Senator Nelson's public service ending.  He has had a worthy career and has well served his constituents in my opinion.

Oh, Scott'll be out in six years; Scott would have lost if the initiative to renfranchise people who had served their prison terms had been in effect.  I guess Bill Nelson might be back.
