Recently I was visiting some of my wife's family in Long Island. I had hoped to get away for a day to ride the LIRR from Bethpage to Montauk. Logistics did not work out. One concern was finding parking at Wantagh or Bethpage. Are most parking spots taken up by commuters who pre-pay to park?

Anyway, I left the trip idea for my next visit to LI.

I did see and visit the Wantagh Railroad Museum. This small museum has the town's old depot, first post office, and LIRR parlor car "Jamaica" on display.

Later in our visit we drove up to Oyster Bay to tour Teddy Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill home. Very worthwhile! After the tour we drove through the town of Oyster Bay and saw a LIRR train leaving the depot there. Another rail excursion idea for a future visit to LI.
