Train 97 is currently 9 Hours late at Charleston, SC. Most of delay occurred at RVR.

Track Work?
It was already an hour late out of Washington. Most of the delay actually occurred between Washington and Alexandria, probably due to backups from the derailment earlier in the day. And then there was another bout of additional accumulation of delay between Rocky Mount and Florence, the usual Rocky Mount Gauntlet delay for anything way out of slot I suppose.

Why are trains delayed a lot between Richmond and Rocky Mount? Seems like the main cause of delays for the north-south trains there.

Ill conceived and poorly planned single tracking done by CSX in a fit of frenzy to try to save some tax money. Now they are trying to fix the problem at great cost, probably more than all the tax money they ever saved. Who knows?

Left WAS an hour late. Delayed 4 hours south of WAS due to clean up activities at the CSX derailment site. Then equipment issues at FAY ending up with a car being set out in FLO.

Returning to the discussion of track work on CSX at Richmond, the outage is the next phase of the Acca Yard Bypass project. During the last outage in April, the interlocking at North Acca was reconfigured to allow for additional tracks between there and AY (the interlocking where the S-Line towards Main Street diverges from the A-Line towards Rocky Mount).

We'll have to see what type is work is done during this outage. Presently the run between Richmond's Staples Mill Road and Main Street stations is one of the slowest passenger runs in the US, and VA is putting up money in an attempt to bring about marginal speed increases.

I'm sitting in WAS and I see that #85 to Richmond is cancelled. Scheduled to leave at 1905. Do 85s passengers to Richmond get to ride 97, the Meteor, (departs 1925) instead? How do the handle the people ticked to intermediate stops (Quanrico, Fredricksburg, Ashland)?

No, they may not ride 97 instead. They may not ride 97 unless they are reserved on 97.

Here is the first of the now three threads regarding this outage:
