First week of spring? Guaranteed to still be plenty of snow in the Sierra Nevada then.

Looking for delays and stoppages later this week in the Sierras:

* WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

* WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, from 10 PM this evening
to 10 AM PST Saturday. For the Blizzard Warning, from 8 AM
Thursday to 4 AM PST Friday.

* Heavy snow with periods of blizzard conditions expected.
Strong winds and heavy snowfall rates will cause whiteout
conditions with blowing snow. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5
feet in the High Sierra above 7000 feet
, with 1 to 3 feet of
snow around the 6000 ft elevation, including the Lake Tahoe
Basin.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very difficult to
impossible, especially Thursday into Friday morning
. Be prepared
for significant reductions in visibility at times. Damage to at
least some trees and power lines is likely.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

This is a life threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel!
Road crews and first responders may not be able to rescue you.
Stay indoors until the snow and wind subside.
Even a short walk
could be deadly if you become disoriented. The latest road
conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

The 6(16) arrived at Truckee at 8:25pm PDT and left Truckee at 8:46pm PDT, running about 6 hours late . . .

I-80 was closed to traffic both ways around 2pm PDT Friday, from Colfax to the Nevada State Line due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility.

I hadn't heard of this weather website before... Interesting -- Vencore Weather

11:10 AM Tuesday | *****Major coastal storm with significant impact all along the I-95 corridor*****

There is the likelihood for mesoscale snow bands to form on Wednesday with very heavy snow rates possible of a couple inches per hour and these bands may include some “thunder snow”. By tomorrow night, significant snow accumulations of 8-14 inches are likely in the DC, Philly and NYC metro regions with locally higher amounts possible. An interesting note about the DC snowfall, this is going to be by far their biggest of the winter season and it'll officially come in spring. As with most storms in March, elevation is likely to play a critical role with a couple degrees of difference from lower locations potentially having an important impact on snowfall totals.

In addition to the snow, as the secondary storm intensifies near the Mid-Atlantic coastline later tonight and Wednesday, the pressure gradient will tighten and northeast winds will increase noticeably. In fact, there can be gusts to 40 mph or so at inland locations and 50 mph or so at the coastline by later tomorrow during the brunt of the storm. The combination of increasing northeast winds and heavy, wet snow could, unfortunately, lead to some power outages during this long-lasting event. The second storm should wind down early Wednesday night and it’ll stay cold later this week and into the weekend and, believe it or not, there may be yet another nor’easter to worry about this weekend.
