We are vacationing in Las vegas at the end of the month, and are spending our last few days at Disneyland . Could you please advise if there is an easier Amtrak route then the following to get to Anaheim?

LAs vegas - LA

LA- Anaheim

Then of course we are thinking of taking the Amtrak back to LA to LAX ....does it stop close to the airport ??

THanks for any advice or help.

Hate to burst your bubble, but there has been no Amtrak service at all to Las Vegas since the discontinuance of the Desert Wind in 1997. There is a Greyhound bus between Las Vegas and Los Angeles that Amtrak sells tickets on, but note that it is NOT operated as a contracted Amtrak Thruway bus. It is a straight Greyhound operation, although it does stop at Union Station in LA. You cannot take the train from Las Vegas to anywhere.

There is an operation called the LuxBus directly between Las Vegas and Anaheim that has been generally well spoken of. If you are not driving or flying, that is probably a better bet than the Dirty Dog. http://www.luxbusamerica.com/index.php

Los Angeles International Airport is about 15-20 miles from Los Angeles Union Station (although Amtrak uses station code "LAX" for Los Angeles, it is Union Station and not near the airport almost universally known as LAX). There is the FlyAway non-stop dedicated bus service between Union Station and LAX that runs every 30 minutes. That is the best way to get from Union Station to LAX. The Amtrak route from Anaheim to LA is only about a 40 minute ride or so, and it is not particularly scenic, unless you like backyards and industrial developments. You will probably be just as well off to just take Super Shuttle from Anaheim to LAX. There used to be airporter type buses from the Disneyland Hotel to LAX, but am not sure those are still around.

Remember, per the TT - NO CASINOS at Las Vegas, NM! (I guess they have to make that clear!)

Raton got the gambling license last year or two. NM revoked the gambling license recently because the investors never got a chance to build the "racino". It's a horse race track/casino place.

I guess Las Vegas NM has a very poor odd to win a gambling than Las Vegas NV, well except for Amtrak.

Well, if Bruce Richardson can make his little Z-Train work instead of fighting with rival X-Train, then maybe it will some day happen. But not by a year from Christmas. And it won't be fare-share with Amtrak, so no, you still won't be able to take "Amtrak" from LAX to LAS (or back).

Sad.

I hope you haven't bought tickets to Las Vegas, NM... It's real pretty up there and certainly worth vacationing, but probably NOT what you have in mind. The coyotes and roadrunners would sure enjoy the company, tho.

I noticed the Lux Bus appears to start in Los Angeles before picking up additional passengers in Aneheim based on the schedule posted on their website.

Anybody know where in LA?

Rob

As others have said, there is no actual train service from Las Vegas. The easy option would be a Greyhound bus service direct from Las Vegas to Anaheim, there is a service at 7.30 am and also at 2.10 pm. Fares are around $50 and it takes about six and a half hours. You can travel to LA union station by bus, and then take a train to Anaheim, but that seems a long way round to me, given that the bus to LA is not much shorter time than the direct bus to Anaheim..

Thank you for your help...all of your information was very helpful and we have reserved seats on the the lux bus from LV to Anaehim with our kids ...thank again

yes is it Las Vegas , Nevada.

If you can afford it, it would be much easier to fly from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. That way, you're already at LAX.

Interesting. Makes you wonder why Amtrak or anyone else would want to re-establish train service to Las Vegas. There is no way they could compete with luxbus. The train, when it ran, took over 7 hours just LA to Las Vegas.
