I 've been through the Union Station in Denver a couple of times and was wondering who cleans the windows before heading into the Rockies? Is it Amtrak employees or is it Union Pacific employees? With the train arriving at different hours I was wondering if they are just hanging out awaiting the arrival of #5. Thanks!

If Denver is a service stop, then the employees empty out the trashes, drain the septic tank, fill up the fresh water tank, maybe food supplies, fueling (maybe by employees or fuel truck), and 1,000 miles inspection such as wheel bearings, hoses, brakes, etc.

IIRC, the train servicing/inspection work at Denver (and Omaha) is contracted out and those folks are not Amtrak employees. As far as fueling the locomotives enroute, that is also contracted out and the work performed by employees of the fuel supplier.

Except in emergency, waste system holding tanks are not emptied enroute, only at the endpoints.
