If successful, the tentative service called “West Michigan Express” might then expand busing services or even evolve into a commuter rail service along the same route, said Patrick Waterman, Hudsonville city manager and chair of the West Michigan Express Task Force.

The pilot plan envisions 10 buses outfitted with bathrooms, WiFi and other amenities. During peak commute hours, the buses would make stops every 15 minutes at stations in Holland, Zeeland, Hudsonville, Grandville and Grand Rapids.

Waterman estimates it would take about 40 minutes for a bus commuter heading from Holland to Grand Rapids, or the other way around.
