We're going to board the #5 at SLC. It seems to be early a good bit of the time, like 45 min early yesterday. If so, will we be allowed to claim our bedroom and go to sleep, or is boarding done by the book based on departure time?

As Bob Dylan said (in a movie), all of us are trying to kill time, but in the end time kills us. Anyway, our current plans have us going CHI-GJT and renting a car to SLC via some national parks, then SLC-EMY. To allow for unforeseen circumstances, we'll probably end up in SLC several hours...

I realize this may be an esoteric question. We will be breaking up our CZ trip into 2 segments at Green River, UT (GRI), which is nicely situated for several national parks. But there's not much of a town there apart from highway-exit services. No car rental agencies in town for Amtrak tourists...

Do I understand correctly that we must go through the lounge because boarding is done from the lounge? It seems to me that the lounge must be pretty crowded with three major westbound trains leaving within an hour or so.

I noticed that breakfast offers scrambled eggs and omelettes, made on board, but there is no 'eggs any style' option. May I conclude from these data that the 'eggs' are poured from a food service container rather than from the shell?

...so I booked early for CHI-GRI on CZ for 8/31/2003. Roomette was $502. Within a week, the roomette is down to $407. I assume I can reticket by paying the 10% fee?
