    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

Uh, I did. That was no help….the agent I finally got in the phone, was fairy clueless. But thank you?

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

Supposed to board the Chief tomorrow AM in KC, to Chicago, then on to Washington and Birmingham, on the way home from a business trip-Popped on to see how it was doing its first night out of LA and it's not on the map.....I know there were cancellations and early turns for 3/4 a day or two ago...

    Lincoln Service 302

Made the switch to 302. Did not use my 24 hour upgrade coupon, glad I didn’t. The business class half of the Amfleet cafe/business car is full, the first Seimens coach was full, the full business class car was full, the next coach is full, but the last coach is almost empty. Perfect...

    Lincoln Service 302

In Illinois on business, flew up, taking the train home, Bloomington-Chicago-DC-Birmingham. Booked on the Texas Eagle, from Bloomington to Chicago. It's showing 100% full, so thinking of moving my ticket to the 302 train a few hours earlier. I can either wait in Bloomington, or Chicago, doesn't...

    Canceling a reservation

My last few cancellations, they no longer let me take a voucher in lieu of penalties. Just lost that portion. However, I may be wrong but I think they are still allowing changes without penalty, if you can reschedule for another day down the road. Might save you from losing whatever the penalty...

Select, Select Plus, Select Executive population

Yeah, I certainly prefer it when it works. When I lived in OKC I took the Heartland Flyer to Ft Worth, then the Eagle to Chicago and points beyond, or LA quite a bit. Moved to Alabama 5+ years ago, so going west meant flying to Chicago, which I would do on my points, then train to Seattle...

Select, Select Plus, Select Executive population

I've been Select Executive for quite a while. Not sure how long, because I really don't pay attention to it. Occasionally I'll remember to use a companion coupon, but usually book my own travel, early, then need to add a companion later-And apparently you can't do that with the companion...

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

Admittedly I haven't poured through all 18 pages, but I am curious, they are pulling plenty of sleepers out, I assume for that refresh they've been talking about-But have any been returned after yet? I've seen the refreshed coaches, but not yet seen a sleeper or SSL.

Washington DC Union Station facilities, convenience and experiences

I do miss the bar at Legal Seafoods, it was my hang out place between trains. Hopefully something else good goes in it's place as things pick back up. Now that the Crescent gets in so much later anyway, it's not that big of a deal, but my Crescent-Capitol trips I usually camped out at the bar...

Been a while, planning another trip

The Eagle consist has been Locomotive, Sleeper (crew and revenue in a normal sleeping car) cross country cafe, and 2 coaches, one of which is usually a baggage coach.

When is the 2023 Crescent annulment south of Atlanta?

Great......We're leaving Birmingham to WAS-CHI-LAX on the 13th......Haven't heard from Amtrak about it yet. Guess we'll start looking for other arrangements if we need to. I just tried to book again, BHM-WAS, and it's letting it book, with no mention of a bus-Is it just certain days again maybe...

When is the 2023 Crescent annulment south of Atlanta?

I can't find it now but saw a post on FB somewhere that the Crescent was going to be annulled South of Atlanta again beginning very soon. I know it's an annual thing, but can't remember when it usually is-Any ideas? I have a trip next month, just trying to get ahead of the game if I need to make...

Almost as good as the real thing simulator

Just realized there was a simulator app segment here. Thought some of you might like to see the real thing. Might be just a bit pricier than your home PC sims.....It's pretty impressive how realistic and configurable these are. Can use analog, ICE, or other display configurations to display many...

Options to add another to reservations

Yeah. They did, this is one area Amtrak COULD learn from the airlines where status actually matters. But after decades of regular riding most all of it for business, I've become quite used to "status" on Amtrak being all but worthless, and inconsistency the only consistent thing about it! It is...

Options to add another to reservations

As info, I was able to add my wife to my reservation using points. Wasn't sure they would let me do that, since I booked paying cash, for my ticket-I couldnt' change it/cancel it to use the companion coupons, but surprisingly, I was able to book her open sleeper ticket to my reservation using...

Options to add another to reservations

I am AGR, have been Select Executive for years, I travel a lot. But in this case doesn't seem to help. Apparently it will cost me either cancellation fees to rebook it with her on the coupons, or I can buy the open sleeper ticket for her-Talked to two different people. Both said the same thing...

Options to add another to reservations

I have business in LA next month. Long story short, I have two reservations, one BHM-WAS-CHI, then another one CHI-LAX. Planned to go solo, but now the wife has time and is going to come with me. I have 4 companion coupons. Is there any way to use them to add her to the existing reservation...

    Amtrak features and comfort updates

Have you actually ridden in a freshened roomette? I haven’t yet, but I believe it’s simply new seat covers over the same seats. I have ridden in a new coach seat briefly, and it did seem a little more supportive. Maybe the material alone makes it a bit stiffer. Yes, papers used to be provided...

    Viewliner II Bag-Dorm roomettes

Interesting. Not sure how they're going to do that, as the car is open to the baggage area, with no door, so anyone can access checked bags. Only really a problem, because you can check things you can't carry, (i.e. firearms) but I see that being a problem, unless they retrofit doors separating...
