Sorry, you have confused me with the original poster about salads. I did not start this conversation, only interjected. As to whether there is a rule or not, I don't believe we have any direct evidence either way.
Don't know what your angry about, all I'm doing is reporting my experience. I actually think it's a good thing since some folks don't eat the salad and it goes to waste.
Well it has a couple of cucumber slices in it which is no improvement for me since I don't like them. I have no idea what the policy is, don't have access to that info, but in practice it was never set on the table automatically as in the past and I was rarely asked if I wanted one.
In the last couple of weeks I've been on the Eagle, the Sunset, the Coast Starlight and the Empire Builder, all in a sleeper. In all cases the salad was a separate $3 item on the menu. Sometimes I was asked if I wanted a salad, sometime not. It could even vary from server to server on the...
The bedroom has a fold down seat with arm rests that is next to the window and faces the couch. In some bedrooms that will be facing forward and in the others it will be facing backwards, depends on the room and the orientation of the car. The seat portion is a bit short and in the case of the...
In the sleepers I'd like to eliminate all the rattles that keep you awake at night, mainly the doors between the bedrooms. I think the bikes will be addressed when the new Viewliner baggage cars are added to Supeliner trains. They have hang-up bike racks.
I was going to suggest the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland but they are only open 1-5 Thursday through Sunday. Looks like you are leaving Portland on the Empire Builder on Thursday afternoon so that would be cutting it pretty close. It is accessible by streetcar however. In...
Something I found out the hard way ... if you lose that real ticket it can't be replaced except by buying another one. Just saying she might have been doing you a favor in an unpleasant way.
Wouldn't count on going into many stations, stops are generally short. Train will never leave before scheduled time so if you are really early into a station there might be time. Always check with car attendant before going farther than the side of the train. If you get surprised far from your...
I don't know what engine 21 had last night, I was asleep, but train 22 went through Austin about 2:30 with locomotive 124.
Has anyone heard what they eventually ended up doing to get Train 21 (20) to SAS? Use UP motive power or did they finally get the reserve P-42 fired up and rescue the...
There is a Yahoo group called All_Aboard. Some pretty knowledgeable folks there and some who seem to have an inside contact at Amtrak. Generally friendly group but also a few who seem to have little hope for Amtrak.
Posted by a passenger on the train to another list ... train hit a tree or large branch outside Marshall and was damaged. Made it to Marshall but first told they were waiting for a UP engine now not sure what they are waiting on.
The ceilings on Viewliners are considerable higher than on a Superliner. That creates some space above the toilet and over the adjacent hallway. Thing is, you have to heave the luggage up there. One way to help with that is to get it to the upper bunk, then transfer from there. Also space...
