When I priced out the cost of our recent 14 day trip via individual purchases vs rail pass, the rail pass saved my wife and I approximately $1,000, purchased 6 months out. Your mileage may vary.
I too had issues on my Crackberry, but solved it by just using the the Archived Status to access the relevant data. Even so, thanks for the hard work you do on the site, it was EXTREMELY useful on our recent trips!
I found this was not always the case on my BlackBerry (probably due to its buggy web browser) however I was able to access the most current text version of the train status through the "status file archives" link. Thanks for having an alternative route to the information!
On the CZ leg of our trip two weeks ago, we were 4.5 hours late into Sacramento where the wife and I were getting off, approximately 6:30 pm. Out of idle curiosity, I had inquired of my SCA about an additional meal service for those passengers going all the way to Emeryville. (Those of us...
FYI, You might want to recheck your departure time from NOL. As of earlier this year, it was moved back 5 minutes to 7:00 a.m. I know that we departed at 7:00 when we left this past Saturday.

First off, let me say that I realize this board is not affiliated with Amtrak, I just need to vent a bit before I call customer service
Having just completed a 2 week jaunt around the nation via Amtrak, I have one major gripe.
How hard is it to keep the AC working in the sleepers?

Ditto. Amtrak is accommodating those they can headed West via the CZ and CS.However, they are not being proactive about it. You have to ask. If I had waited until they contacted me, there is a good chance the only option left would have been flying .
