Lincoln Service service disruption listed under Illini/Saluki?

Trying to get from STL to CHI but I've heard horror stories about bus bridges so I'd rather stay on a train the whole time. Thinking of driving out to Effingham an coming up that way but Amtrak lists a service disruption there as well. But when I click for details on the warning next to 390...

Tropical storm Andrea, Will it stop the train?

Nah, just lots of rain. I suppose there might be some flooding, but nothing large-scale. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if NHC discontinues advisories on Andrea tomorrow.

    Anybody from Phila area

I'm by no means an Amtrak expert but I've done CHI-TRE on the Cap and NER, TRE-CHI via the Pennsy and Cap, and CHI-TRE via the Cardinal. Perhaps I can help with questions?

    Parking at Metro Greenbelt, MD

I want to park there Friday-Sunday instead of paying ridiculous amounts of money to park in a garage downtown. WMATA says there are "15-17" spots for long-term parking. My only concern is that 15-17 is not that many. Anyone familiar with Greenbelt know if these spots tend to fill up, and if...

Could a version of the Auto Train sans the auto be successful?

Wow, I didn't think this would trigger such debate. So the answer is obviously no, but I learned a bunch about the AT just by reading the thread. Sometimes I'm convinced this place knows more about Amtrak than Amtrak knows about Amtrak.

Could a version of the Auto Train sans the auto be successful?

In other words, a non-stop Superliner consist but only for passengers. Is there enough demand for a third Florida train, or perhaps some hypothetical system where the Star and Meteor ran opposite days, but this train ran every day? I know WAS can handle Superliner equipment from the CL, but...

    Abandoned stations of the NEC

Wow, I had no idea there used to be so many commuter stops. Do you have any pictures of these? It seems like even the slightest remnant of these is impossible to find.

    Abandoned stations of the NEC

Wow! Great pics! Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for.

    Abandoned stations of the NEC

Oh yeah, I forgot about Frankford Junction. Old SEPTA rail system maps show a separate "Frankford" too. And of course there's Wissinoming, whose shelters you can see from I-95.

    Just like the Pennsy today!

    Abandoned stations of the NEC

This thread is for Amtrak, NJT, SEPTA, and MARC. (Should it be moved to commuter rail?) Some of the old Amtrak timetables list stations I've never heard of, like Iselin, NJ and Capitol Beltway, MD. Are these just Metropark and New Carrolton, or did Metropark and New Carrolton replace older...

How often do you see this? SNOW for 1 & 2

Yup, I follow the Capitol Weather Gang on facebook. Saw that too.

How often do you see this? SNOW for 1 & 2

If you're taking 1 or 2 to get away from the cold and snow... oops. Winter Storm Warnings are up for southwest Texas, including El Paso, Alpine, and Sanderson. Alpine could see over 8 inches! http://www.srh.noaa.gov/maf/
