I fully enjoyed my SWC trip ABQ - CHI in March! I bedded down in my roomette somewhere between Lamar and La Junta. If I had to get off at La Junta I wouldn't have gotten a roomette; and then what? get on a bus for the remainder of the night... until breakfast time in Kansas City? Miserable...

My SWC trip in March (eastbound ABQ - CHI) was sold out, but only from Kansas City or maybe Galesburg. But the first part of the trip was pretty empty, make that very empty, a full coach totally empty. My point is that you may be able to find the point on the trip from where the train is full...

I was in #13 on the SWC and enjoyed its location. I'd ask for it again! I especially liked the vestibule nearby and spent some time taking photos out the window on "other" side. I found the nearby restrooms very handy, always clean because they were not overused, and with the shower so close...

The Ute Park Fire in northern New Mexico is the one that burned some of the northern portion of Philmont Scout Ranch. The Ute Park Fire is now 95% contained and winding down. Philmont has suspended their Training Center programs until June 24th, and their backcountry programs until July 14th...
