Just a followup. Everything worked out great. He got the text alert as promised. Even better, I followed the train status on the internet and was able to alert the family he was staying with (who had no internet at their cabin) that there was no need to rush in to the Dells with a 3 1/2 hour delay.

In 2012 I took the Empire Builder, opting to begin my travel from Glenview so that I could leave my car parked there for free for the entire week. The ticket agent gave me a ticket to put on the dashboard and directed me to a specific part of the parking lot. Has this courtesy parking perk gone...

I just read about it on this site. :( I registered for him to receive an alert two hours prior, not sure if that means two hours prior to the scheduled time or two hours prior to the revised ETA. Any thoughts?

My son is traveling alone (age 17) enroute to Chicago. I purchased a one way ticket on train 8. Does the train stop here for very long? How will he know which car to get on as there is also train 28? Thanks for the advice.
