I think that people should also be allowed to use laptops on those tables, as well. That is, as long as they aren't hogging them for too long or the car isn't full of others. The tray tables either in coach or sleeper simply don't do the job, for me at least.

It seems pretty expensive last time I checked. It could easily get in the $1,000's for just a 2-3 day trip in sleeper.

Agreed. Before they make such statements, they should try to see for themselves. For example, if someone were to say to me "No one rides trains in Atlanta", I'd tell them "Go to the Amtrak station at 8AM and you will see the station, even if it is small, crowded." Until they are willing to see...

In fact, my local fire station in Atlanta is about 100 feet from an active rail line, so that makes things even more difficult...

That would be the P40s, at least the non-upgraded ones. P42s are rated for a max speed of 110 MPH, as are the P32AC-DMs.

Does the line to Atlanta via Folkston & Waycross go through Austell? 'Cause when I railfanned Amtrak in Austell, within a matter of 30 minutes of waiting for the Crescent to pass, usually 2-3 freights come by, as well. Kurtis

$173 for a roomette is very good, indeed. Especially since, upon looking up the prices on various dates, it would be safe to say that Amtrak is getting a fair amount of business on the route. (High bucket fares left & right, even a number months in the future) Kurtis

If I understand you correctly, you're getting a roomette for all 4 party members? (2 roomettes in total, of course) If so, Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner is free in the Dining Car. However, you'll still have to pay for anything you get from the Sightseer Lounge Car. Kurtis

I too have noticed a slight increase in fares. Up to the last time I checked, the price of a Bedroom between Atlanta & Birmingham (or New Orleans for that matter) was $70 on top of rail fare. Now it is $72. No biggie, though. I might end up going to New Orleans later this year & a mere $2 extra...
