This probably happens quite often, and for good reason - one can be in far worse health and still take a train, than would be possible driving, flying, or riding a bus. It's often the only way for people to make that one last trip home.
There's one possible reason for the temporary nature of the trash can - it allows flexibility to add in recycling in the future. Most of the California trains have recycling on board, unfortunately, it's a mess, as there's not a lot of consistency between the recycling programs in all the...
I feel like once pot is legal this room searching will also go away. All the other stuff is equally illegal in every state, and doesn't have a market for people to transport it from the west coast to elsewhere.
quite possibly - the story was told to me at least second hand if not third or more! If anyone else has heard this one, would love to know what happened afterwards.
Being on the west coast, I'm surprised that third rails are allowed without grade separation. An easy fix for grade crossings could be license plate cameras, similar to those at red lights... for some reason, a $300 fine seems to deter people more than dying in a crash.
Best story I've heard on this topic goes like this, though I can't say if it's true:
A couple is travelling together to Seattle. One of the two meets a third passenger on the train and decides to sneak off in the night to the third person's sleeper room a few cars up. When attempting to...
I have heard stories about how young men traveling in a roommette by themselves get flagged for search. Would not be surprised if they profiled by race as well.
Something else worth noting - if your trip is between Emeryville and Seattle chances are good you'll probably be seated with the same person the whole trip and most people in your car will be sleeping as well. Those boarding between Eugene and Martinez get put in the "late night" car which is...
As a Bay Area local I'd never live in the Jack London Square area (and it baffles me why it's a high-rent area). It has the worst air pollution in the region, courtesy of multiple freeways and the container ships in the port.
I doubt it, last night it was back to just freeways. The train blocking got some press for the novelty of it, but doesn't quite have the impact of stopping 50,000 cars. Berkeley's station doesn't have enough passengers to justify staffing it, though there are about a dozen cameras on poles...
I took it a couple years ago, the driver met us in a 12-seater van. There's an extra luggage trailer for when there are lots of passengers, I'm sure they can accomodate extra luggate if you call ahead. Most people are going to one of the hotels in downtown Santa Fe, so anywhere on the way...
