    Tampa Union Station

Here's where the old pre-1963 station was. It looks like it was torn down shortly after the 1963 station opened. Here's what it looks like now.

    Tampa Union Station

Historicaerials.com is another great site to look at for old topos and aerial photos. As far as I can tell, no, there was never a rail crossing,

    Tampa Union Station

Amtrak always used the 1963 ACL station northwest of downtown. The station building is still there along with some remnants of the platform. The pre-1963 station was downtown. On the rail bridge over 38th Ave N there's still an ancient PASSENGER TERMINAL NEXT LEFT sign. Looking at some old...

Single Comet Coaches added to San Joaquins?

Looks like there was a discussion about this in 2020. https://www.amtraktrains.com/threads/single-level-cars-on-the-san-joaquin.77554/

    Amtrak Police

Of course the details vary by state, but law enforcement officers are generally granted their powers by the state regardless of the jurisdiction they're employed by. So there may not be a legal limit to their jurisdiction within the state, though practically it's very unusual for them to work...

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

I-40 opened about half an hour ago. It's going to take several days to clear the wreck and rebuild the track. I-40 wasn't damaged but was closed due to the danger of explosions. The site should finally be safe for recovery crews to approach.

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

This is going to be several days. They're waiting for the propane tanks to burn out. Not that Amtrak communicates well, but they were offering an opportunity to return to your origin if you wanted. Bus substitution is tough because I-40 is also closed. There's a detour but it's over two lane...

I-40 closed after train derails, catches fire near Arizona-New Mexico border

KOAT TV in Albuquerque has some aerial shots of the derailment. Current plan is to let it burn out. https://www.koat.com/article/interstate-40-closed-train-derailment-lupton-gallup/60621052

CSX collison in Folkston, GA affecting Silvers and Auto Train

Yes, that's the location. The train was going north on the west branch and hit a stopped train on the right track, going by the news footage. It went through two switches. It was either supposed to be on the left track (first switch set wrong) or on the east branch (second switch set wrong).

Seems to be engine failures. Had to leave an engine in Gallup a few days ago which was picked up by the next day's train.

SEPTA plans to scrap Key Card fare collection to smartphone system

The situation is normally a drive thru gate at a National Park. You'd have to set up a vending machine somewhere, in its own lane or to the side. But you still have to collect the cash from it and deal with fussy bill acceptors. A better solution would have stores nearby sell gift cards. Same...

    Amtrak Store changing vendors

Some of the regional trains still list playing cards on the menus. $5 except on the Heartland Flyer where they're $3. No idea if they actually have them.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

As I recall, the wording in the RFP says the new cars are to replace the current bilevel cars but doesn't specifically say the new ones must be bilevel too. Anyway, there have been some proposed floor plans that have accessible diners and lounges, with accessible sleepers and coaches next to...
