I've always been confused about flag stops like this. What happens to last-minute reservations?

You are given a reservation number and a price from a telephone agent (no booking online) and when you board the train the conductor accepts payment and handwrites a ticket. Real pain for getting your AGR points.

Really dumb question here:

I am hoping to board the City of NOLA in Chicago and ride to Newbern Station, TN.

I am confused about how baggage is handled. If I check my bags in Chicago,
how do I get them once I reach Newbern? Does "no Baggage service" mean that I
am unable to check bags at all in Chicago?

Thanks in advance.

:hi: Not a Dumb Question @ All, One Can't Learn Without asking Questions! The Bad News is that You Will NOT Be Able to Check Bags to your Destination since it is a Flag Stop @ O-Dark _Thirty in the AM! :o (only stops when Someone is Getting on or Off the Train) with No Staffing, hence No Checked Baggage! :(

The Good News is that the City is a Superliner Equipped Train with a Downstairs Luggage Rack and also Plenty of Space Upstairs for Luggage if you are riding in Coach! You can ask for a RedCap to help get you to your Train and Avoid the Less than Friendly Gate Agents and the Crush that Develops @ the Boarding Gates in Chicago Union Station!

If you are Riding in a Sleeper you will Leave from the Metropolitan Lounge where you can Store your Bags until Time to Board (remember to Tip the RedCap), then Ride on a Cart out to the Platform to Board!(also Tip the RedCap)The Sleepers have the Same Downstairs Luggage Rack, if in a Roomette you can Store your Bags in the Upper Bunk or Store them Downstairs taking only what you'll need to your Roomette! If in a Bedroom, you'll Have Plenty of Space for your Bags and Stuff! :)
