Attached is one of the photos I was able to take at the Orlando station today. Something appropriate about this... The same train that was hauling the last Heritage Diner North back in May is falling the first Viewliner sleepers (62001 and 62002) north today.

This should double as a HUA for any railfen along the route.

I also got another picture of the sleepers going guy on the back of the train... Remind me, were any of the old viewliners named?

Nice to see some GOOD news related to Amtrak!

Thanks for posting the photo.

It is misleading only because between the obvious deadheading and the fact that I had never seen a viewliner with a "River" name (I had only seen the "View" names) I believed these were new ones (at first the front ones and then the rear ones) since in particular, displaying names hasn't been done in a while on these.

For future reference, if it doesn't have Phase III paint, it's not a Viewliner II. There is currently one Phase III Viewliner I sleeper (62043 "New River"), but there aren't any Viewliner IIs in that Phase VI paint.

Picture of New River. As mentioned before, this one didn't help my confusion. Different paint job, plus a name on the side... Not to mention, it being a name that didn't line up with the old naming practice.

There is another pretty easy way of distinguishing between Viewliner Is and Viewliner IIs. Viewliner Is have a protruding metal rod (I don't know the technical term) with a divot between the upper and lower windows, extending the entire length of the car. On Viewliner IIs, there's just a very subtle metal seam.

Random question. Are the Windows on the Viewliners the same windows on Amfleet 1/2s? Amfleet 1 top Amfleet 2 bottom?
The lower window of a Viewliner is slightly larger vertically than the Amfleet II window.

Amfleet II left, Viewliner right.

Correct .
Incorrect... See the above post.

Thanks, I must have been misinformed...was it always that way, dating back to the three prototype's--the two sleeper's and the diner?
