Great Video of the Eagle and the Nicely Restored Station,( ex-Mopac) which used to be a dump.Longview is an interesting town, makes for a nice weekend Getaway.

The reason there are 2 Waiting Rooms goes back to Jim Crow days when Whites and Blacks were totally Segregated in the South.

Wow I had no Idea! Which waiting room was for whites and which for blacks? Any idea?

Honestly I don't, I never visited the Station in Mopac days, and by the time of Amtrak Segregation was long gone in Public Accomodations, even in the Piney Woods of East Texas!

After viewing my own video again (ironic, huh?), I would bet the East Waiting Room was for African-Americans as it's about 1/2 the size of the West Waiting Room, and with a nicer entrance. Sad, but true.

In our town in the deep south, our station from 1902 was segregated. We have a picture on the wall of the architect's 1912 modification. Not only was the space for Blacks much smaller but the Black man's restroom had to be entered from outside the building! Even the water fountains were segregated. At the railroad museum I used to volunteer at (and still do a couple of times a year), they have an old "Jim Crow" car on display and the White and Black restrooms are world's apart. It's sad how little we realize how much discrimination and mistreatment existed well into the '60s. Separate and VERY UNEQUAL was what the south was like.

Yep, I remember riding trains and buses heading South to Dixie, and when you reached Baltimore( Washington DC was Segregated too!), the Blacks had to move to a "Colored" Car,(Coach) and on the Buses there was a Yellow or White Line in the middle of the Bus and Whites rode in the Front and Blacks in the Back of the Bus.

Of course Blacks weren't allowed to eat in the Greasy spoon Cafes the Bus stopped at, nor in the Diner on the Train.( even though the Porters and Waiters were Black!)

As I remember it, most Black travelers took food with them on their trips.

Definitely Not the Good 'Ole Days!

Thanks for posting! Love your video posts. What equipment do you use?

@Bob Dylan: Interesting information about the segregated waiting rooms. Awful history! Definitely not the good old days.

Believe it or not, the videos I've posted here were all shot on my iPhone 8+. Its camera is wonderful and rated for a better picture than the GoPro 6 (have one of those too).

I also edit my video right on my phone with a $12.99 app. Will give you the name once I can come up with it.

The 8+ shoots great video.

I don't doubt it. Modern iPhones have phenomenal cameras.

Just realized, why didn't you just use iMovie? It's free and already installed on every iPhone.
