Well be taking the Crescent to NOL arriving on 8/29. In checking ASMAD I see that over the last month the median arrival time is 3 hours late (that is, arriving about 10:30 pm). Assuming our train is late (and during that period no arrival has been less than 90 minutes late) will we be able to get dinner in the dinner before we arrive?

There is an abbreviated dinner served around 5:00pm. Only one call. Not all of the dinner selections will be available, but it is a full service dinner.

The Crescent already serves an abbreviated dinner when the train is on time, so of course they'll still serve if the train is late. If anything, you should be wondering if you've got a shot at getting breakfast!

It would seem that Amtrak knowing the constant delays to #19 would provide additional meals for the train at ATL. There are very many caters that service the ATL airport. It has never been less than 1 hour late at Laurel for the past 6 months.

There really is nothing to suggest that all necessary food could not be stocked at New York for a meal that is scheduled to be provided anyway. There should be no need to set up a Commissary delivery in Atlanta. It is another matter that Amtrak appears to routinely understock food on may trains for many meals.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the train is late, the OBS staff are paid for that extra time. However, no matter how late, they don't change either the abbreviated menu or the serving time. At least that's been my experience even when we arrive in NOL at midnight.

You are correct. Same service at the same time regardless.
