Made a bucket chart for sleepers on the Cardinal just between CHI and WAS (a 20% reduction in trip mileage) and noticed this apparent oddity:

• Roomette buckets were reduced by about 5%, down to about $100 more than those on the CL whereas...

• Bedroom buckets were reduced by about 32% (about 6X more than than the Roomette reduction) and exactly equal those on the CL

The differences between the reduction percents seemed a little weird, so I made a similar comparison for the LSL between CHI and ALB (a 15% reduction in trip mileage) and found:

• Roomette buckets were reduced by 12 to 14% whereas...

• Bedroom buckets were reduced by only 5 to 7% (about half the Roomette reduction)

Don't know of any Amtrak sales going on that might explain this, but there it is. If nothing else it might be nice to know that if a CHI <> WAS sleeper trip is on your wish list (and the timing is right) a Bedroom on the CARD can get you there for the same price as a Bedroom on the CL with perhaps better scenery, more and better meals and more time on the rails.
