Is there any significance of the number "42" in regard to veterans, or is it just a coincidence that the two (powered) veterans units are 42 and 642?

Yeah. You’re missing the photo of 642 pulling into New Rochelle.

 

 

I see it now. The lights sort of cover the numbers (the lights look "bright" on my phone).

It's funny, I usually identify the special livery locomotives by the livery, rather than the number.
