Thankfully, my wife does her sewing (quilting) by hand while on our train trips and cruises. No need to lug a sewing machine around

Just a woman with a fully operational sewing machine on Amtrak doing some work.

She's in the cafe, so it wouldn't bother me. I'd probably ask what she's working on.

I sew, but I definitely wouldn't want to haul my sewing machine on a train. Maybe she's finishing up a project with a deadline (i.e. gift for a baby shower).

It also amazes me to see the number of people knitting on the train. I probably would poke myself with the knitting needle even sitting still--how on earth do they do it?

Pre 9/11, I have seen this on a plane. It would make me awfully nervous to have a seat mate whipping darning needles around during turbulence.

Capitol Corridor had a 50% discount one time in conjunction with the Stitches West knitting convention at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The only requirement was that the ticket be booked to/from Santa Clara. I tried it with both GAC and SCC, although SCC is somewhat far away from the convention center. OK - I checked and it was still in place for this year.

I used the discount code since the terms didn't say there was any requirement to attend the convention.

Jacques Plante, one of the great goaltenders of all time used to knit to keep his mind clear. Supposedly, damn good at it. Lots of train rides in the early part of his playing days. Bet that turned a few heads.

Rosie Grier used to do needlepoint while he was traveling with his football team, the New York Giants. Interesting guy, he was a bodyguard for RFK the day Sirhan Sirhan killed Kennedy. Apparently he was a better football player than bodyguard.

Looks like it's pitch black outside and I'm assuming car is not crowded so go for it.

I can't sleep in a coach seat either!
