Will the recently introduced changes in terms and conditions and new policy on dining cars negatively influence rail tours? I believe that they just might, and I'll tell you why.

The new cancellation policy carries penalties that will make it harder for rail tour operators to buy blocks of rooms and then later cancel unsold units. The lack of a dining car removes a key convenience and selling point. IMO, these two factors will result in a great reduction if not the end for America by Rail and other rail touring companies. What say you? .

IMO, the tour companies booking a block of rooms (creating a sold out option) and then canceling them later without penalty, is the main reason that the penalties were instituted for regular passengers!

This from someone who has complained about Rail Tours blocking rooms then cancelling near departure dates, therefore inflating prices 11 months out.

Tour companies can not afford to be paying cancellation fees unless their customers are paying them. Now, it is possible Amtrak may waive fees and give a discount if a vendor promises a certain volume of business for a 12 month period. Personally, I do not think it is in Amtrak's benefit to offer discounts during their peak operating times.

My post didn't take a position or make any comment on rail tours and their effect. . I just simply stated an opinion on their continuance or discontinuance. Online forums should exist for the open exchange of ideas and opinions. Comments of a personal nature about other forum members are never be worthy of a response.
