With all the discussion regarding the new diners, the rumors of chef positions being eliminated, etc., I have a question. Does the current LSL diner-lite car have a chef? I have ridden this train numerous times over the past several years since the Heritage diners were eliminated and my observation is as follows:

The LSL diner-lite has an LSA, several servers, and an individual who is located in the central/galley/serving area of the Amfleet car who is wearing chef attire. But in Amtrak's nomenclature, is this individual actually a chef? One of the reasons I ask this, is because if this train does get the new V-II diners, the current car staffing would not have to change. Granted the food would be the same, but you would have the person in the chef attire working in the V-II diner kitchen, and the LSA and servers working in the passenger section of the car. The problem with the current set up is the mess and congestion in the central/galley/serving area of the current Amfleet/diner-lite car. I would love to have the new V-II diner operating up to it's full potential on the LSL, but I would be happy with the new cars serving the same food but in a better environment.

The Lake Shore still maintains the Chef position. It no longer has a food specialist (helper). This is contrary to the Cardinal's diner lite operation, which has the lone LSA running things.

The difference is volume.
