It seems as if the brakes on the coaches were released on purpose, by staff "pulling the cords" to free them. Why that would be done seems a puzzle, unless the diesel and electric locos might have slightly differing brake pipe pressures? A bit of human error circumventing all of the railways "fail safe" efforts!
