In the past, Amtrak usually had a turkey dinner offering for major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc...), but I am not sure if that too or if it is going to be offered.

I think it has been several years since Amtrak has served holiday meals on its long distance trains. I would not count on it.

I have traveled LD Dec. 24th for the past four years (LSL or CL) and will do so again this year and never once at any meal on Dec. 24-25 has there been anything other than the regular menu offered, with no holiday upgrade or embellishment whatsoever. Happy Festivus.

This is the PERFECT place for Festivus' Airing of Grievances!

I dont get this holiday ambiguity. A few days before my wedding, I got my hair cut by my favorite barber, a fairly religious 80 year old who is one of the nicest, sweetest, kindest men I have ever met. Also a great barber, but I digress.

Upon finding out that we were to be married, he called over his pastor and asked him to bless us. I didnt say, *i dont need a Christian pastors blessing! I am Jewish* I let myself and my wife be blessed, and to this day I was very touched- and felt blessed by it- for it was a kind gesture of a friend wishing upon me his best through the medium of another man he considers worthy of helping with it.

Likewise, when I am wished Merry Christmas, who am I to take offense? I hope I am happy and merry on December 25th; why shouldnt I be? I mean besides the fact that I am a cantankerous golem of a kvetch and probably dont deserve it.

I said Christmas gets me down, and it does. Its a time other people are happy for reasons I cant relate to. I dont wish them unhappiness; I merely wish I could be happy too. To take offense at others happiness, to rectify disparity by dragging others down, I think that would be a disrespect to any god- mine, yours, or the flying freaking spaghetti monster.

Well said, GML. It's beyond my feeble, sleep-deprived brain why some people insist on peeing on other people's corn flakes when it comes to holiday greetings.

And with that said, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

I think some, of not all, the mentions of holiday(s) was to encompass Thanksgiving & any other holidays that might have special meals.

The crazy thing is, we would not be having this upcoming holiday and the frantic shopping for presents if people didn’t celebrate Christmas. I doubt

celebrating the winter solstice would have generated what we have today.

GML, that was one of the awesomest posts I've read here!

Wishing you much joy in the holidays and through the coming year.
