Hello everyone! I'm thinking about taking the Card in December and had an obscure question: I'm a vegetarian and saw that on the Cardinal's menu, there aren't any options without meat. Since the Card's diner(-lite) exclusively uses microwaves and convection ovens, do you think they would let me have a breakfast option (maybe RR French Toast) as my lunch entree? This is obviously a weird question, but if anyone here happened to know the answer, I would really appreciate it.

on the contrary, it is Amtrak's stated policy that a vegetarian selection option is offered for each meal. That doesn't guarantee it will not be sold out, but it is on the menu. In the case of the Cardinal lunch, it is the Marketplace Salad, in the description, it is noted that it can be ordered with or without a side protein to serve as the Vegetarian option. On the other hand, I like your idea, it is certainly worth asking.

Got it. Appreciate the help! :)

I wish the vegetarian options were more imaginative. I am not a strict vegetarian but in my neighborhood in Queens I have some really good vegetarian restaurants including a coffee shop I go to every Sunday morning. They can do things without meat products I did not know were possible until a few years ago.

You would expect to have more imaginative vegetarian entrées in a vegetarian restaurant. In many non-vegetarian restaurants that have multiple vegetables, your vegetarian choice seems to be all four of them. Amtrak has few vegetables and only a few choices of entrées in total. Nothing is "imaginative".

What I like is that even when they make a dish with common vegetables, they go out of the way to prepare them in unique manners. Being the "main event" not the side show it makes sense. but it does raise my expectations of what to expect from a veg side on a conventional plate.

Do you happen to know if the Penne Pasta with Tomato Sauce and Meatballs is already prepared with the meatballs? If not maybe I could order the pasta without.

Penne pasta enrobed with tomato marinara sauce (the formulation for this dish has
recently improved the ratio of sauce to pasta) and beef meatballs in a single pack
container – used for luncheon service – garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.

This is the description on the Amtrak Food Facts section of the website....based on the phrase "single pack container" I'd guess it's already assembled, but I have no personal experience or insight outside of this....

The Amtrak Food Facts menus are often different from the ones listed on the main site. What is thought of as more up-to-date?
