Steak Loft in Mystic Village is good for a reasonably (compared to the rest of Mystic) priced restaurant--I usually go at lunch. A lot of locals seem to go there. They have a good salad bar that comes with meals or can be a meal on its own. Also, the diner across the road does a good breakfast.

There is the "S & P Oyster Company". We ate there years ago... I believe it was on the water, or as I recall - located on a narrow river or tidal channel in the downtown area. And it was close to the Mystic Amtrak station. At that time is was "the place to eat" in Mystic, CT. So it's been around for years.

I wish I was from Mystic! Can't afford to live there, but it is my northern short "getaway" town for a few days once or twice a year. (I chose it as part of my screen name because it's one of my favorite rivers.) :)

Looks like you may be too busy to find the Steak Loft on this... https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g33845-Mystic_Connecticut.html#MAPVIEW ...so it's just South of I95 on Hwy27/Greenmanville Ave at the Southwest corner of the village. That link will also provide its phone number, address, 826 reviews (the most recent from last week), photos and menu.
It's number 21 on this tripadvisor list, but don't let that fool you--it's basic, decent food. Also, they have a senior discount day (I think it's Wednesday, and it looks like they give the discount to everyone) with, if I remember, 10% off your bill. However, every senior within about 100 miles seems to show up, so the other weekdays would be quieter. They are closed for a couple of hours between lunch and dinner, so check the times before you go.

I don't think you can take the rating number of the restaurants seriously. I've seen places where fast food joints were rated #2 or #3, way ahead of places that are much better. If a bunch of kids give a Burger King a higher rating than some nice sit-down place then the Burger King gets a higher rating. You shouldn't use this internet rating sites to make your final decision on where to eat.

I would never trust trip advisor ratings alone- people dislike places for reasons that are irrelevant to other people.

Take Chinese restaurants- a lot of people are turned off by staff that dont speak great English, or by Chinese cultural brusqueness, and give them low ratings. I have not found a really good Chinese establishment that doesnt have a litany of those complaints.

Another example is preference- I have read complaints about restaurants undercooking a rare steak, and complaints about them overcooking as well. In my opinions, if the outside is fully light brown, there is no way the steak is undercooked- but I like my meat raw in the Center, and the only reason I cook a steak at all is to kill bacteria on the outside of it. I know other people dont like their food that way- but you see one of those reviews would turn many off and turn me on.

So actually read the reviews.
